So, These Are The People Who Post On NeoGAF!

So, These Are The People Who Post On NeoGAF!

A teaser video for the upcoming GameTrailers.com documentary about the popular gaming message board NeoGAF finally puts some faces to the screen-names. These people don't look anything like their avatars!

I quite like the GIF-generating, news-aggregating, secret-finding, incessant-games-journalism-analyzing NeoGAF. I even post there from time to time. But I've not met many other people who post there. I've mostly been left to imagine what the fine folks there looked and sound like. Now, we can all wonder no more.

Behold:

The full documentary will air on GameTrailers.com and their affiliated apps on June 1 at 4pm ET/ 1pm PT. I've seen a rough cut. There's some fun stuff in there.

Sony Won't Answer These Questions About PS4 DRM and Used Games... Yet

Sony Won't Answer These Questions About PS4 DRM and Used Games... Yet

Used games. Love'em or hate'em, you've probably got some opinion on the furor surrounding how we'll buy, sell, and borrow video games in the future.

Microsoft has already revealed plans to restrict used games in some way for Xbox One, and Sony has been murky about how the PS4 will handle them. Tons and tons of gamers are still campaigning for pro-consumer policies on the PS4, and at least a few Sony execs are paying attention. But the company has yet to say anything official.

So being the relentlessly-pestering reporters we are, we've reached out to Sony several times over the past few days with questions about their policies. Here's what we asked:

1) Sony has previously said that the PS4 does not require an online connection. To be clear, is this true perpetually, or will the console need to occasionally connect online? If so, how often?

2) Will games need to be registered online in order to use them the first time out?

3) Will the PS4 games be able to be bought and sold used? Or will there be an online activation fee that essentially causes a used game to cost as much as a new game, thereby eliminating the relevance of used games?

Last night, a Sony representative finally got back to us. His response:

I looked into this, and at this point we’re not providing any additional clarification beyond what we stated around the PS4 announcement. If anything changes, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

We're expecting to hear more at E3 in a week and a half—and of course we'll be pressing both Microsoft and Sony for more details at every opportunity. Hopefully they've got straight answers by then.

Even If You Hate Angry Birds, You Gotta Admit These Toys Are Great

Even If You Hate Angry Birds, You Gotta Admit These Toys Are Great

Hasbro will be selling this bulk pack of Angry Birds action figures as a Comic-Con exclusive. On 364 days of the year, I would rather drink poison than buy Angry Birds action figures, but boy, roping vintage Star Wars packaging into the mix sure does change things.

While they're technically individual figures, they'll be sold as one single item, and will go or $ 25. Not bad. If you're not going to Comic-Con, don't sweat it; the day a Comic-Con exclusive isn't instantly re-sold online is the day the sun dies out.

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

Alien lifeforms aren't always just non-player characters, enemies or simple decorations. From time to time some games let us slip on creepy, gooey and downright ugly alien suits to play as cool aliens and extraterrestrial races.

These alien simulators can usually be put into two categories. It's always under the context of either a serious, fearsome, advanced galactic civilization (of which you are often a member of), or a completely stupid one who crash-landed on Earth by accident.

Let's take a look at the games that let us play with these characters.

Alien vs. Predator (arcade)

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

Let's forget Aliens: Colonial Marines for a second, and think back to one of the best games with aliens and predators where you can pick predators as playable characters. It's the arcade beat 'em up from Capcom: Alien vs. Predator circa 1994.

ToeJam & Earl series

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

Released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, Funkotron resident alien rapper crash-lands on Earth, and we have to collect missing spaceship parts in order to leave the planet.

Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

This one's one of those rare PC fighters from the 90s with an alien theme. The playable characters include reptilians and all kinds of weird anthropomorphic shapes and blobs.

Destroy All Humans!

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

Made as a parody of the UFO frenzy of the 50s, we have to harvest brain stem cells from mankind with Crypto, a warrior of the Furon empire.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

After the terran campaign we are finally able to crush everything in Heart of the Swarm with the zerg with Kerrigan and maybe infested terrans as the only beings that resemble humans.

Alien Hominid

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

Originally an indie flash game, Alien Hominid is a side-scrolling shooter that probably has the nuttiest alien protagonist on this list.

The Feeble Files

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

The Feeble Files is from 1997—an era when 2D adventure games still counted as a booming genre—and featured a scientist alien called Feeble as the main character.

Stupid Invaders

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

The animation series Space Goofs featured five completely nutty aliens who crash-landed on Earth and have to try to get home. Interestingly enough the 2001 adventure game based on the series is quite a long and decent one.

Alien Soldier

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

That is some awesome armor and character design! Alien Soldier is a pretty insane run and gun game—with 31 boss battles—from Treasure, released for the Sega Genesis.

Oddworld series

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

The Oddworld games let us control characters from various races like the mudokon Abe—who's definitely the most adorable alien video game character—as well as the gabbit in Munch's Odyssee and a creature from the steef race in Stranger's Wrath.

Ascendancy

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

The 1995 turn-based strategy game Ascendancy had a whopping number (21) of super-weird and unique playable extraterrestrial races. Ever wanted to conquer the galaxy with a race of flowing fibers? Yay! You can do it in Ascendancy!

Master of Orion series

These Games Let You Play As Aliens

The godfather of turn-based strategy games, first released in 1993. The first game introduced 10 playable races—all with their own advantages and disadvantages—including humans that later expanded in the following two sequels.

Storm the comments with visuals if you played any great games that have alien playable characters!
