Darksiders III Sounded Great. Pity It'll Never Happen.

The Darksiders series isn't really dead. Nordic games owns it, and will presumably do something with it. But the series as we knew it, developed by Vigil Games, may as well have died earlier this year when Vigil went off and joined Crytek and left Darksiders behind, where no major publisher on Earth wanted anything to do with it.

So we'll never get the game that was originally intended to follow Darksiders III. Which is a shame, because it sounds like it might actually have delivered on some of the teases made at the end of the first Darksiders (the only part of that game I really enjoyed), and which went unanswered in the sequel.

Speaking with IGN, Vigil's former creative director Joe Madureira “It was always our hope to do a full four-player co-op game, with all four Horsemen playable. It’s possible we could have pulled it off. I would have liked to introduce Fury and Strife. I know many fans feel robbed that they never got to play the last two Horsemen."

As for story ideas, he says "Story wise, we tossed around the idea of the Horsemen attacking Hell to challenge Lucifer," he continued. "And then taking the battle to the Charred Council to regain their freedom. Epic stuff. There was also an idea to do crazy ‘western’ type story, where the Horsemen are mortals after the rebirth of Mankind, sort of an alternate future. But neither idea got very far.”

And now never will.

Even If You Hate Angry Birds, You Gotta Admit These Toys Are Great

Even If You Hate Angry Birds, You Gotta Admit These Toys Are Great

Hasbro will be selling this bulk pack of Angry Birds action figures as a Comic-Con exclusive. On 364 days of the year, I would rather drink poison than buy Angry Birds action figures, but boy, roping vintage Star Wars packaging into the mix sure does change things.

While they're technically individual figures, they'll be sold as one single item, and will go or $ 25. Not bad. If you're not going to Comic-Con, don't sweat it; the day a Comic-Con exclusive isn't instantly re-sold online is the day the sun dies out.

Finally, Some Hardware Gameplay Footage. And It Looks Great.

Hardware: Shipbreakers, a strategy game being made by some of the guys behind the Homeworld series, has looked very gorgeous for a very long time. Problem is, in all that time, we'd never actually seen any gameplay footage.

Time to fix that, with this surprisingly candid and lengthy footage of the game in action.

You don't need me to tell you that some of the art and effects here will move Homeworld fans to tears.

Yeah, Punching's Great. But Superman Should Kick More Guys in the Nuts.

The Last Son of Krypton mostly pummels evildoers in the face. Yes, there's the good ol' freeze breath and heat vision attacks but those tend to feel a bit impersonal. And Superman always pulls his punches with normal human bad guys. But, what if someone pissed him off so much that he didn't hold back? Well, according to this video by YouTube maestro FreddieW, it'd be newsworthy, to say the least.

Here’s what’s going on Talk Among Yourselves, our reader-written blog: It's been a great long weekend for TAY with tons of well-written provocative pieces. Among them: SloopyDrew calls for revolution against a top-down, overly constricted vision of gaming's future. GiantBoyDetective looks at more fictional video games from the insides of TV shows in his recurring Animation Infiltration feature. A piece about the game mechanic that makes DamonsRhee ragequit and the AniTAY round-up deserve your eyeballs, too. Finally, there's a defense by Cimeas of, get this, Fable III. Interesting timing now that the world knows what was inside Peter Molyneux's Curiosity cube.

And you can always go join the voices talking about video games and life in TAY Classic and in the TAY: Open Forum.

Microsoft tells Polygon that the great dev studio Rare will be bringing back one of its old series for Xbox One and will show it at E3. For the love of god, let it be Blast Corps! (It most likely won't be Blast Corps.)
